A VIOLENT offender locked up for a string of assaults has been banned from Northwich town centre under the terms of a two-year ASBO.

Ryan Dingle, 20, of Navigation Road could be arrested if he enters the area between 7pm and 7am.

Dingle was jailed for 26 weeks at Vale Royal Magistrates Court in November after being convicted of 10 offences. Magistrates imposed the ASBO as an additional punishment, but it was suspended until he was released from custody last month.

The Chronicle has this week acquired permission to publish his picture to assist police in enforcing the strict order.

Dingle was convicted of six assaults over a five week period in April and May; two offences of criminal damage; theft and a bail offence.

If he breaches the ASBO, which runs until February 2010, he could be jailed for up to five years.

Insp Pete Minghella, head of Northwich’s Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said the 20-year-old will be watched closely now he is back in the community.

“This case should act as a warning to others that we will not tolerate violent behaviour on our streets,” he said. “The ASBO will be monitored and if there are any breaches he will be arrested.

“Likewise, if he causes problems in other areas we have scope to broaden the terms of the order and extend the prohibited area.

“ASBOs should not be taken lightly and in this case the punishment reflects the seriousness of the offences.”
