A WOMAN bravely clung to her handbag as a would-be robber tried to snatch it from her.

The 45-year-old Ellesmere Port woman narrowly escaped having her bag snatched in the incident in Penn Gardens last week.

At about 7.45pm on Monday, May 2, the victim was walking down the alleyway between Compton Place and Penn Gardens in Ellesmere Port.

Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman Shelley WIlliams said: “A man barged into the woman and tried to steal her handbag from her.

“He escaped empty-handed and ran from the scene.”

The suspect is described as being in his early twenties, about 5ft 7in tall and of medium build.

He had dark brown hair and wore a pale grey hooded cardigan with a ribbon pattern, and dark jeans.

Fortunately, the woman escaped without injury.
