NESTON High School’s newly-adopted resident author Jon Mayhew spent the afternoon working in the library with the Year 7 Premier League Reading Stars.

Part of the National Trust, Premier League Reading Stars is an innovative programme that uses students’ passion for football to support their reading.

Neston High School’s programme is run by English teacher Laura Jolley and school librarian Suzie Evans.

As a reward for the current group of Premier League Reading Stars’ dedication and enthusiasm to the programme it was arranged for local and now resident author Jon Mayhew to visit the boys.

Suzie Evans said: “This was a fantastic afternoon in which Jon shared his journey from reluctant reader to author as well as treating the boys to some very spooky stories.

“The boys were incredibly engaged and inspired by Jon and we hope to organise for Jon to work with the boys again in October.”

JON Mayhew’s new adventure Monster Odyssey: The Eye of Neptune is available in shops now.
