VALE Royal runners braved the rain this weekend to perform well on two of the biggest stages.
The Mid Cheshire club were well represented at both the Great Manchester Run, screened live on the BBC, and the Shell Chester Half Marathon, which attracted more than 2,500 competitors.
Under 20s star Zach Cross was the first Vale Royal member across the line at Chester Racecourse, completing the 13-mile course in an impressive time of one hour 17 minutes and 35 seconds.
He was followed across the line by personal-best time setter Tom Armstrong (52nd), Pete Clayton (56th), John Carroll (90th), Rob Oliver (149th) and Helen Smith (289th).
In Manchester on Sunday, Vale Royal athletes rubbed shoulders with the world’s greatest long-distance runner Heile Gebreselassie and Commonwealth Games 10,000m gold-medalist Fabiano Joseph.
Gary Weedall was first home for Vale Royal in 139th in 38 minutes and three seconds followed by Matt Sweeting (145th), Anne Budenberg, Chris Griffiths and Gareth Johnson.
Just two members treaded the local streets this weekend at the Moulton Bound the Pounds Race.
Colin Rathbone finished third overall in 30 minutes followed by Carole Williams five minutes later.
