Story book characters were brought to life by staff and children at Ashton Hayes Primary School.
Creative costumes were worn by teachers and pupils and even the recently appointed headteacher, Matthew Dover took part, dressing as Willy Wonka.
Other imaginative characters included the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Katniss of Hunger Games fame, Winnie the Witch and many more colourful and varied book characters.
The children each donated £1 to the charity, Book Aid International.
As well as dressing up for the day games, activities and competitions were organised. There was also a book exchange.
