PUPILS from Willaston Primary School celebrated the spirit of Remembrance Day by helping repair a vandalised war memorial.

Year 6 students from Willaston CofE primary school dedicated their time and effort to ‘re-creating’ the war memorial plaque.

The pupils showed their creative side by using calligraphy to illustrate each individual name on the memorial, which pays tribute to soldiers from the village who lost their lives in both World Wars.

Headteacher Julie Chambers said the children were concerned when the damage took place and thought it was important to put effort into each individual name on the plaque to honour all the heroes.

Julie added: “The children were thrilled to take part and we were delighted with the quality of their work and the maturity they showed while completing the project.

“Both the school and the children fully realise the importance of Remembrance Sunday and the need to pay tribute to those who lost their lives.”

The children had to complete their work on the memorial in time for the annual service which will be held at Christ Church, Hooton Road, Willaston, next Sunday (November 13).
