AN ARSON Reduction Team is leading the revitalised Park Watch Scheme in Wrexham.

Park Watch aims to encourage park users and residents to help look after their country parks and ensure it is safe for residents, visitors and for all the community to use and enjoy.

The scheme will formalise the partnership between Wrexham park wardens, the Arson Reduction Team, police, fire and rescue service and Pride in your Streets.

It will cover all country parks in Wrexham including Alyn Waters, Moss Valley, Acton Park, Bellevue Park, Nant Mill, Ponciau Banks, Stryd Las, Ty Mawr and Bryn Kinalt.

Sandra Williams, arson reduction manager, said: “Every year, fire destroys thousands of acres of countryside and wildlife habitats.ŠMany fires across Wales are started deliberately, but some are due to carelessness.ŠIf you see a fire in the countryside, report it immediately to the fire and rescue service by calling 999. Please do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself, as you could be risking serious injuries.”

Sgt Andy Piggott of North Wales Police said: “Under the scheme, any incidents of crime or suspicious behaviour should be reported.”
