ROBBERS armed with a baseball bat and a claw hammer stole a ‘four figure sum’ of cash during a terrifying raid on a busy social club.

Two men burst into the Wings Club in Station Road, Little Sutton, shortly after 11pm on Thursday and forced a member of staff to open the safe.

The duo had jumped over a wall into a communal smoking area, where they threatened two female workers, before entering the club.

There was about 20 customers inside when the robbery took place, but nobody was injured.

Cheshire Police confirmed that a ‘four figure sum’ of cash was stolen.

Detective Constable Pete Jones told the Pioneer: “It was a very frightening experience for both the members of staff and people in there at the time.

“The two females who were in the smoking area were very shaken up.

“There’s probably been a bit of pre-planning involved. This is a very serious offence.

“We’re keen to identify those responsible. It’s possible they made off in a vehicle.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who was in the club at the time as people may have left before the police arrived.”

An 18-year-old man from Ellesmere Port and a 16-year-old male were arrested in connection with the incident shortly after the robbery.

They have been released on bail until Wednesday, September 8.
