A POLICE investigation has been launched following a sexual assault in Ellesmere Port this week.

Officers are appealing for information about the attack, which happened on Monday between 8pm and 9.15pm.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was walking along the alleyway at the back of Crescent Road when a man approached her.

He pushed her against a wall and sexually assaulted her before she managed to push him away, leaving him to escape in the direction of Meadow Lane.

The perpetrator is described as white and between 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in tall. He had dark hair and was wearing white trainers, dark tracksuit bottoms, a blue T-shirt and a blue jacket.

Sergeant Kelly-Ann Blizzard of Cheshire Constabulary’s Dedicated Rape Unit, said the victim is currently receiving help and support from specialist officers.

“We are currently following a number of lines on enquiry in a bid to trace the offender,” she said.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or was in the area at the time and has seen anything significant or anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.

“Fortunately incidents of this nature are rare, although I would urge people to remain vigilant when walking alone at night and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.”

Anyone with any information should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 853 of March 11.
