FORMER Northwich Vics chairman Mike Connett was on the receiving end of a barrage of missiles and abuse after a power failure forced Saturday’s FA Cup match to be abandoned.
Vics were beating Telford 1-0 when referee Michael Naylor was forced to abandon the match at the Marston Arena.
Fans vented their anger towards Mr Connett, whose company Bea- conet Ltd owns the Wincham ground.
When the lights went out, it became clear a back-up generator could not power the stadium’s floodlights.
Vics owner Jim Rushe said: “Some people were throwing objects at him.
“Obviously, as a football club, we cannot condone such behaviour and the throwing of objects. Mr Connett was quite badly shaken by the incident.”
Vics’ safety manager Bob Rob- inson said: “I can understand why the spectators were getting annoyed. But we didn’t have any control over it.”
