THE National Assembly for Wales’s minister for finance and public service delivery, Andrew Davies AM, has officially opened Contact Wrexham (Galw Wrecsam).

Contact Wrexham, in Lord Street, was launched earlier this year and provides customers with advice and information about a range of council services.

Customers can talk to trained advisers and get information on a wide variety of services, including council tax, bus passes, housing benefits, blue badges, schools meals and school uniforms.

Mr Davies said: “In these challenging economic times, we need to look at new ways of delivering much better services to citizens more efficiently and for lower cost. Contact Wrexham is an excellent example of such a service, which puts customers at the very centre of what it delivers.”

Since opening in January, Contact Wrexham has seen more than 14,000 visitors and helped customers access a variety of council services. This has included issuing more than 450 blue badges, helping 1,500 customers apply for housing benefits and reviewing 250 Criminal Records Bureau checks.

Cllr Aled Roberts, leader of Wrexham County Borough Council, said: “Over the last few years we have developed a contact centre, website and digital television service, all of which have shown our commitment to providing the best service possible. Contact Wrexham adds to this work.”
