WORK on an ambitious £1m project to transform the main entrance to Chester Zoo is under way.

Building on the New Beginnings project will see the entrance to the 110-acre zoo transformed.

It will include landscaping, a wheelchair and buggy hire facility, new guest services area, improvements to the Ark Shop and an iconic oak tree as the centrepiece.

Liz Child, head of visitor services, said: “The revamped main entrance will provide a better experience for visitors and will give them a focal point for any queries or needs they may have.

“We are constantly seeking to provide first-class services for our guests and this project is an essential part of that and will make visits to the zoo smoother in the long run.”

The work is costing just under £1m and will provide enhanced facilities for visitors.

The project is expected to take five weeks and be finished in time for Easter.

Ms Child added: “We’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience during the period of the works and hope visitors will continue to have an enjoyable day at the zoo.”
