A TRADITIONAL country pub on the outskirts of Northwich will be flying the English flag with pride to mark St George’s Day on Thursday, April 23.

The 400-year-old Alvanley Arms Inn, on the A49 at Cotebrook, is more determined than ever to make people aware of England’s patron saint.

The pub will be awash with red and white flags, bunting and English red roses – with the dragonslayer himself welcoming guests outside the pub on horseback!

And guests can even claim a free pint of traditional cask ale. From noon-3pm anybody who exclaims ‘By George!’ when placing their order can claim their drink – on the house.

In the evening, a selection of ‘St George Specials’ will be on the menu, offering a selection of mouth-watering dishes to celebrate some of the great food England has to offer. There will also be a quiz, where guests can test their knowledge on all things English.
