A year 9 Blacon High School pupil was nominated  and selected to attend a sporting event held in Sheffield from 12th September to 14th September.

Alisha Mitchell was one of only 150 aspiring young athletes from across the country to be given the opportunity to attend the Talent Inspiration Programme (TIP) at the Sainsbury’s 2013 School  Games.

The Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes of school age, with around 1,600 of the nation’s finest young sports stars competing this year in the city of Sheffield.

Alisha, 13, said “It was a great experience for me to mix with so many talent  people and to have the opportunity to learn so much.”

During her time there Alisha attended workshops, observed high-level competition in a number of sports and took part in practical sessions. Alisha returned determined to achieve her potential and has set her sights at representing Great Britain  at Handball at the 2020  Olympic Games.

Joanna Carr, PE teacher  said: “Alisha was nominated  by the whole department because of her outstanding ability across a number of sports. What an amazing opportunity for her and we will continue to support her to achieve her true potential.”
