WITTON Albion’s fantastic four already have superhero status after Gary Finley’s new-look side halted their 11-match losing streak by pulling off a shock victory at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

Finley, who was delighted to have finally got his first win since returning to Wincham Park as manager last month, has reshaped Witton’s squad with new signings and there will be more to come.

Neil Black, who scored Albion’s opener on Saturday (see page 30), arrived from Colwyn Bay last week and should continue to partner Lee Thompson up front on Saturday.

Impressive central midfielder Ashley Dunne has joined Witton on a month’s loan from old foes Fleetwood Town and proved an instant hit.

Albion secretary Pete Riley said: “All the new lads look great but Ashley Dunne was just fantastic. He looks a great acquisition.”

Paul Booth, from Leigh Genesis, signed last week and should help skipper Brian Pritchard shore up the defence while John Moore, from Cammell Laird has bolstered the midfield.

Finley said: “They are all good players and sharpened the team up on Saturday. But it wasn’t just the new lads that did a job, the lads that have kept their places in the side played well too.

“I am still looking to bring in one or two more signings by the end of the week.

“It’s still early days but the signs are good that things are coming together.

“The squad is no longer just one that I have inherited, we’ve got some confidence now and hopefully we can build on that with a result on Saturday.”

Witton host Ilkeston Town on Saturday (3pm) and then Cammell Laird in the UniBond League Challenge Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).
