AIRBUS boss Gareth Owen hailed his players after they battled back from the brink of relegation to record their best-ever finish in the top flight, secured by this convincing victory.

The Wingmakers looked dead and buried after their demoralising defeat to Caernarfon in February, but 18 points from a possible 30 since then sees them finish the season in 12th.

Player-manager Owen said: "Over the last 10 games the lads have been fantastic and we fully deserve to finish where we have done."

One of the major reasons why Owen’s men have climbed away from danger are the goals of James McIntosh.

The striker took his tally up to a club-record 12 for the campaign with a double over a County side that looked set to earn an underserved point from a game Airbus totally dominated.

McIntosh and Hughes both went close in the early stages before the two combined for the best move of the first half as Hughes raced on to Owen’s floated pass down the line and produced an inviting cross for McIntosh, who should have done better with his close-range header.

Hughes was equally as wasteful moments after the break when he drew keeper Shane Earp only to chip the ball wide.

The deadlock was finally broken 16 minutes from time when Hughes’ shot was cleared off the line into the path of McIntosh to rifle home.

And his second came five minutes later as he latched on to a defence-splitting pass from Leigh Williams and coolly lifted the ball over the onrushing Earp.
