AIRBUS boosted their survival prospects after securing a crucial victory over their fellow strugglers at the Airfield.

Player-boss Gareth Owen put the Wingmakers on course with a well-worked opener five minutes before half time, and then defender Mark Allen weighed in with an important second-half double to clinch the points.

"With our plight, it was a very important win as they are just above us," said Owen.

"I told the lads to enjoy themselves, but we’ve now got to build on it."

Cwmbran rarely threatened, although they spurned a golden chance in the second minute when Josh Collins flicked the ball against the post from close range.

Midfielder Chris Leek clipped the bar with a 35-yarder but Airbus went close with James McIntosh forcing a couple of saves from keeper Gareth Wesson with headed efforts.

But the breakthrough came in style on 40 minutes when Airbus manager Owen linked up well with Ryan Edwards and McIntosh to break clear and steer into the net.

Airbus never looked back in the second half, with Allen heading a second after McIntosh had glanced on an Edwards free-kick.

Darren Wiliams spurned a golden chance when heading wide but the points were in the bag on 61 minutes when Edwards pumped the ball into the box, Williams helped on and Allen produced a neat finish for his second of the game.

The Wingmakers could have added to their tally with Owen hitting the far post with a corner, while at the other end Sam Small fired wide after latching onto a poor back pass from sub James Hussaney.
