ROAD markings urging motorists on a dangerous road to slow down have been left covered for four months.

A stretch of Hooton Road at its junction with Heath Lane was resurfaced with gravel in July and within a week two sets of markings displaying the word ‘SLOW’ and one reminding drivers of the 30mph speed limit should have been reinstated.

Yet contractors still haven’t carried out the work.

Disabled ex-paratrooper Bill Glover, 75, says the oversight is ‘an accident waiting to happen’.

Mr Glover, of Hooton Road, said: “Neston High School children have got to cross on the edge of the village where traffic goes 40-50mph.”

He said he was told by the council the work should have been completed a week after the resurfacing, then that it would be done before the end of November.

On the same stretch, Robert Taylor, 27, from Willaston, died when his car hit a tree in March.

In May 13-year-old Katie Brown was hit by a car while crossing at traffic lights nearby, sustaining serious leg and head injuries.

Mr Glover added: “The guy next door has had his garden wall demolished two times by cars hitting it.

“A car has hit a lamppost and my neighbour’s daughter’s car was hit when she was turning in.”

Area maintenance engineer Ian McNeil wrote to Mr Glover stating ‘the contractor has received a strongly worded admonishment on these issues’.

Cheshire West and Chester Council spokeswoman Laura Johnson said: “We are aware that the road markings were not put back and the contractor should visit within the next two weeks to replace them.”
