Port Talbot Town 1 Aberystwyth 3

THERE was no end of season "going through the motions" for Aberystwyth Town as they produced a sparkling performance in their final away match of the campaign.

Manager Brian Coyne was full of praise for his players’ attitude, particularly in a game with nothing on the result. He also felt that their fitness level was crucial in the unseasonal heat.

The clearly delighted Aber boss pointed out the quality of all three Aber goals in a contest which possibly turned on goalkeeper Richard Morgan’s 51st minute penalty save at the other end from Chad Bond, after he himself had brought down Lee John.

At that point the sides were level, as home skipper Matthew Rees cancelled out a 14th minute effort from Craig Jones’s after some great work by Bari Morgan.

Inspired by their goalkeeper, Aber went on to dominate proceedings, although their afternoon was spoilt by the dismissal of Matthew Roberts for two bookable offences. His second yellow from Kerry Morgan highlighted a ridiculous overall card count in a game containing barely a bad foul.

By the time of Roberts’s departure Aber were more or less home and dry.

A left foot Morgan volley from the left edge of the penalty area gave them a 58th minute lead, and victory was rounded off by a superb 20 yard strike in the 67th minute from Gavin Cadwallader, who was picked out by Coyne as his "man of the match", for an excellent display.

Afterwards the Aber manager emphasised the importance of maintaining this form and finishing the season on a high note against European hopefuls Welshpool on Saturday.
