Cwmbran 2 Aberystwyth Town 0

A DISAPPOINTING display saw Aberystwyth Town slump to their first defeat in four league outings while their financially troubled hosts gained a first league victory in nine matches.

Aberystwyth found it difficult to cope with teenage winger Tyrone Toppar, who created both Cwmbran goals, and produced little themselves to trouble the home defence.

Aber goalkeeper Karl Lewis was busy from the start, making a particularly fine save from a Michael Pattimore effort. At the other end Gareth Wesson was forced into an isolated save from Aber new boy Danny Barton.

Lewis was finally beaten immediately before the break when Toppar was fouled on the edge of the Aber area and Pattimore’s free kick sailed past the goalkeeper.

Cwmbran effectively put the game beyond lack-lustre Aber in the 56th minute. Toppar ended a run down the left with a firm drive that goalkeeper Lewis could only parry into the path of Jody Jenkins who fired home his 12th goal of the season.
