Aberystwyth 3 Cwmbran 1

A STUART ROBERTS-inspired Aberystwyth Town eased the relegation fears of their mid-Wales rivals Newtown and Caersws with a comfortable victory over the League’s bottom club.

Cwmbran appear favourites for the drop as, despite plenty of commitment, they rarely troubled a side looking to secure an FAW Premier Cup slot for next season.

It might have been different had Daniel Clare been luckier with a 20th-minute effort that struck an Aber post.

As it was, Stuart Roberts almost immediately broke down the left and crossed for Andy Evans to give the Seasiders a lead they never looked like losing.

Roberts doubled the advantage from the left edge of the area straight after the break.

Twenty minutes later Sam Small gave Cwmbran some hope from the penalty spot after Aneurin Thomas handled in the area.

However, Aberystwyth substitute Gareth Watkins put the game beyond the visitors with a header from Stuart Roberts’ 76th-minute left-wing cross.
