A 20-YEAR-OLD man died and another is seriously ill in hospital after the car they were travelling in crashed near Wrexham.

Driver Aaron Griffiths-Mahoney, from Brynteg, had to be cut free from the wreckage of the Peugeot 106 vehicle. He was pronounced dead by the time he got to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

His 22-year-old passenger, whose name has not been released by police, is recovering in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The smash happened in New Road, Rhosddu, Wrexham, just after 10.50pm on Sunday.

Police say the vehicle was travelling from the Llay direction toward Wrexham town centre when it hit a wall.

North Wales Police has put up signs appealing for witnesses to the one-car crash and called for anyone who may have seen the car beforehand to contact them.

A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: “The two male occupants were conveyed by ambulance from the scene to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where the driver, a local person, was later pronounced dead.

“The man who died has been named as Aaron Griffiths-Mahoney.

“The passenger remains in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.”
