STAFF and Governors at Darland School, Rossett, congratulated pupils on achieving another excellent set of GCSE results.

In total, more than 2,000 examinations were sat by 186 pupils at the school with a pass rate of 71% at the higher grade, with 64% gaining five or more higher grade passes.

The results exceeded the targets agreed with the local authority two years ago and continue the trend of year on year improvement for the school.

Top performers included Ellie Davies of Marford (11 A*s, along with an A* and an A grade in short course GCSEs), Helena Dunning of Rossett who got nine A*s and one A grade GCSE along with two A*s and a B in short course GCSEs and Hannah Morgan of Wrexham, who got nine A*s and one A grade GCSE along with two A*s and a D in short course GCSEs.

Chris Hughes, headteacher, said: “The system we employ to track pupil progress throughout their time at Darland indicated that this cohort of pupils would perform well in the GCSE and vocational examinations.

“Whilst I am obviously delighted with the results and enormously pleased for the pupils and their parents, I want to congratulate colleagues for their hard work and professionalism, not just during timetabled lessons but for providing enormously productive lunch break and after school revision sessions.”
