CHRISTLETON High School is ‘absolutely delighted’ with this year’s A-level results which they say reflect the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers.

Nearly 140 students received A level results this year, with half of all grades achieved at A*, A and B.

In total, 21 achieved at least three at grade A, with the majority of these gaining at least one A* grade.

Many students were celebrating gaining their first choice university places and will be heading off to institutions throughout the UK, including more than 30 students who were successful in their applications to the prestigious and highly competitive Russell Group institutions including Bristol, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Nottingham, and six students each to the Universities of Manchester and Sheffield. Other popular institutions include Bath, Durham, Hull, and York and head girl Catherine Hanson is going to Manchester University.

Assistant Headteacher, Adrian Francis said: "The last year has been a really tough time for sixth form students, with the increase in tuition fees next year leading to greater competition for university places than ever before.

"We are delighted that so many of our students have been successful in gaining places at their chosen university. The class of 2011 have been a fantastic group of young people to work with and have done deservedly well."

Two students have also been successful in their applications to Oxford or Cambridge University, including Stephanie French, who achieved two A* grades in biology and chemistry and A grades in mathematics and further mathematics and will study natural sciences at Cambridge, while Emily Mackenzie gained two A* grades in geography and law plus grade A in history and will read geography at Oxford.

Six other students achieved two or more A* grades, including:

Lawrie Campbell (4 A*)

Jessica Faulkner (3 A*, 1 A)

Jennifer Chakravarty (2 A*, 1 A)

Catherine Hanson (2 A*)

Timothy Price (2A*, 1A)

Matthew Reed (2A*, 1A)

Students achieving three or more A grades included the following: -

Abi Askey, Sophie Barnes, Tamsin Cook, Jennifer Davies, Roberta Hill, Katie Matthews, Amy Owens, Sarika Paul, Emily Price, Toni-Marie Simcott-Omar, Phoebe Thomas, Oswald To and Jack Williams.

The chair of governors and head teacher are both extremely pleased with the results and congratulate the students on their successes, wishing them well in their future careers.
