THE Ellesmere Port branch of the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) celebrated 70 years of volunteering with a tea party.

Borough mayor, Cllr Keith Butcher, and the mayoress, his wife Joan, joined WRVS volunteers and residents who benefit from their services at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall.

WRVS volunteers provide a lifeline for many people through their luncheon clubs, books on wheels service for people who are house- bound, hospital newspapers and temporary rest centres, which they operate in the event of an emergency.
