THE Assembly Government announced that almost £200,000 will be spent on redeveloping plots and refurbishing utilities at a gypsy traveller site near Wrexham.
The improvements at the Ruthin Road facility was among five schemes approved by social justice minister Brian Gibbons.
All local authorities in Wales were invited to draw up projects for funding. Other schemes were approved in Cardiff, Blaenau Gwent, Swansea and Powys.
Dr Gibbons said: “This grant scheme plays an important part in improving the quality of life for gypsy traveller site residents.
“The Assembly Government is making available £1m for 2008-9 to meet up to 75% of the cost of upgrading and extending facilities on gypsy traveller sites across Wales.
“I am sure that the projects we are funding will bring about real improvements to gypsy traveller accommodation and will also provide a welcome boost for our local construction industry.”
