A CADET is flying high after being awarded his silver gliding wings following a week-long course.

Andrew Robertson, from 1074 Ellesmere Port Squadron Air Cadets, completed his course in the Grob Viking Glider at RAF Syerston, near Nottingham.

The course consisted of many hours learning about the glider and its controls, as well as practical training.

The final day was Andrew’s chance to fly solo, although there was an instructor in the back seat for safety reasons, and the flight went perfectly.

He said “The Gliding Scholarship course is an amazing opportunity and I recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to apply for it.”

The Ellesmere Port Squadron will be taking in the next group of new recruits in September.
