The King’s Junior School, Chester, Hockey A Team won the Cheshire Large Schools’ six-a-side Under 9 Kwik Sticks Tournament held at Deeside Ramblers Hockey Club.

Fifteen teams competed in the mixed tournament. King’s B team also took part and did well to reach the semi final, where King’s A team beat them 3-0. The A team went on to play Kelsall in the final. In a fiercely contested match the score was 1-1 after extra time. King’s captain Jacob Popplewell, nine, of Chester, held his nerve to score the winning goal in the sudden death penalty shoot-out.

Manager Susan Tomlinson remarked: “Deeside Ramblers Hockey Club organised a fabulous tournament which generated lots of enthusiasm for this exciting sport. Naturally, I am delighted that King’s were the eventual winners as they passed the ball well and showed clinical finishing at times.”
