Edwina Currie visited Chester for a very special fundraising afternoon tea in aid of Chester and District Samaritans.

Guests were wittily entertained by the former politician, junior minister, author, and most recently I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here contestant, and enjoyed sandwiches and cakes.

As well as hearing about life as a politician the audience were treated to a talk on the origins of afternoon tea by Clare from the Three Kings Tea Rooms and learnt about different blends of tea from Bernadine of Quinteassential Teas.

Apart from enjoying a tea-rrific afternoon, approximately £1700 was raised to help Chester Samaritans operate their listening service for those who need someone to talk to.

Jane Howarth, secretary of the Friends of Chester and District Samaritans, said: “It was a fascinating afternoon with our very own master of ceremonies which was all the more enjoyable because of the money raised to keep our branch open. We really appreciated Edwina and the other speakers generously giving their time and supporting Chester and District Samaritans.”
