Workers from two sites teamed up to walk, run or cycle between the two and raised a magnificent £4,600 for good causes.

The ‘Funathon’ involved staff from Innospec Specialty Chemicals based in Ellesmere Port and their colleagues from the company’s site in Widnes.

The idea was to raise funds by running, walking or cycling the 17-mile distance between the two locations to raise funds and awareness for the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Hinderton School on Capenhurst Lane, Whitby and the Halton Haven Hospice.

The event kicked off at the Widnes site at 6.30am with a team of walkers.

Throughout the morning other teams joined the route, either walking, running or cycling various distances from 17 miles to four miles.

Everyone was able to join in, no matter what their ability and the event was co-ordinated so those taking part would cross the finish line at Ellesmere Port together at around midday to celebrate with homemade cakes and much needed refreshments.

To add to the fun there was a superhero fancy dress theme which proved to be great fun with some very imaginative and creative outfits appearing.

A spokesman said: “It was lovely to see people that had never walked, ran or cycled in an event before taking part and showing their support, a great sense of achievement for them and for everyone that took part.

“We raised a magnificent £4,600 which smashed our original target of £3,500.

“Everyone is so pleased with the success of the event that they are already looking forward to next year’s.’

The funds raised are being divided equally to help each of the good causes continue their valuable work, research and support within their communities.
