A youth club in Ellesmere Port will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday (November 28) and organisers are looking for your memories.
The foundation stone of the OASIS Centre for Young People in Coronation Road was laid on November 30 1965 by Lord Leverhulme under the auspices of Viscount Alhorp MVO, then chairman of the National Association of Boys Clubs.
At the time, Viscount Althorp was father to a four-year-old Lady Diana Spencer who was to become the Princess of Wales.
The club started as the home of Ellesmere Port Boys Club (The Boyzee). In 1992 it changed to OASIS Centre for Young People and began including females. Activities at the centre include: senior and junior youth clubs, weight lifting, Morris dancing, senior bowling groups and children’s parties.
Youth club members participate in a range of activities such as pool, table tennis, basketball, five a side football, arts and crafts and drama.
To celebrate 50 years of serving the youth of Ellesmere Port, organisers are keen to contact as many past members, volunteers and workers who have been involved with OASIS as possible.
A celebration has been organised for Saturday, November 28 from 11am-4pm.
