A mobile health van will be supporting community wellbeing in Ellesmere Port and Tarporley next week.

With a team of nurses on hand, I-van will give people the chance to get checked up and learn about the latest health initiatives.

It will stop at Trinity Methodist Church in Ellesmere Port on November 17 and Tarporley Community Centre on November 19, both between 10am and 3.30pm.

The visits are part of the West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group’s Self Care Week initiative.

Cancer clinical nurse specialist Debbie Maddox said: “We are delighted to have been invited by West Cheshire CCG to bring the I-van along as part of the event.

“We have found that people pop on the van and then discover a comfortable and helpful environment.

“Men sometimes shy away from seeing their GP, but we are finding more and more are finding out about the I-van and using it.”

The team of nurses on the I-van are trained to identify breathlessness, skin disorders, breast lumps, prostate problems and blood pressure.

People can find out mental health services, weight loss and cancer support.

There will also be sports and leisure information about how to stay well and active.

West Cheshire CCG commissioning manager Trisha Parker

West Cheshire CCG commissioning manager Trisha Parker said: “These health days are geared to raise awareness among patients, carers and the public to look at ways they can further improve their and their family’s health.

“There will be a wide range of professionals on hand to answer questions on a range of health topics.

“The hoola hoop exercise has proved popular at previous events and is good fun for all the family.”

‘The West Cheshire Way’ has been set up to provide a joint service from GPs, hospitals, social care and mental health services.

Self Care Week 2015 runs between November 16-22 and is part of a national aim to improve care in the community as opposed to having to go in and out of hospital.
