A charity heart screening event at The King’s School, Chester, was a success.
On September 17 the Vital Signs Foundation charity delivered a free event which saw the charity screening over 80 school pupils as well as teachers and members of the local community. The day resulted in over 10% requiring immediate echocardiograms and 2% needing referrals to their local G.P for further follow up at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
The Vital Signs Foundation (VSF) is a northwest charity where cardiologists, physiologists, and paramedics deliver a free heart screening programme for 15 to 35 year olds.
Consultant cardiologist Dr Johan Waktare said: “It is charities such as these that do amazing work directly in their local communities.
“We had another worthwhile and rewarding day, reassuring a lot of people but also looking for potentially dangerous unknown heart conditions in young people.”
King’s Director of Sport Richard Lunn added: “We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the event. The VSF testing procedure was very user-friendly and all of the medics and administrators involved were a pleasure to deal with. Our parents and students were most complementary about the whole experience.”
Their next Free screening is on Saturday, November 12 at Goodison Park (Home of Everton FC).
