Tackling ‘rogue parkers’ is the reason behind the introduction of a charge at a Chester health centre.

Patients at City Walls Medical Centre on St Martin’s Way will soon need to pay £1 for a token to exit their car park.

Practice manager Adie Salter said: “We have been plagued with rogue parkers using the car park as free parking and walking into the city centre.

“Following patient feedback about parking at the health centre, we looked at how other city centre practices manage their car parks.

“Some use a token system which involves anyone using the health centres to purchase a token to exit the car park.

"We are in the final stages of introducing a similar system here."

Mrs Salter said patients with a disability badge or receiving benefits will get free tokens.

She added: “This is not a money making scheme.

“We are keen to reinvest any money generated to improve services for patients.

“The Patient Participation Group (PPG) have made suggestions on how to reinvest and we are running an in-house survey for patient feedback.”
