A family show told through puppetry, animation and music is coming to Ellesmere Port for a one-off performance in November.

The Tinderbox, an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, will visit Whitby Hall Studio in Whitby Park on Stanney Lane on Saturday, November 19 at 2pm.

A roguish soldier acquires a magic tinderbox which gives him the power to summon three extraordinary dogs to do his bidding.

Watch the soldier’s remarkable roller coaster adventure from rags to riches and back again. Will he survive and win the love of the beautiful princess?

Norwich Puppet Theatre breathes new life into this classic tale of magic, bravery and love with the show’s inventive design combining an ingenious rotating set, animation and a host of puppets.

One of Hans Christian Andersen’s least known and most original tales, the hero of the story is not your average fairy tale prince.

According to director Joy Haynes: “The hero is flawed, he makes poor decisions, he gets things wrong, it is his journey through ups and down which shapes the story.

“I was drawn to this tale as the ideas of magic and transformation and how extraordinary things can happen always works really well with puppets.”

One of only three theatres dedicated to puppetry in England, Norwich Puppet Theatre brought together figures in the art form to create the show including puppet maker Iain Halket, animators Alison Harvey and Prof Suzie Hanna and sound designer Phil Archer.

Tickets for the show, suitable for ages four and above, are available from Whitby Hall Studio by calling 0151 357 2120 or online at www.actiontransporttheatre.org .
