St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School, Chester, has achieved sporting success with the 'School Games Bronze Award' for its commitment to providing sporting opportunities for their pupils.

Over the last couple of years, the school has increased the number of sporting clubs on offer to the children as well as providing clubs for more children in more year groups.

On top of this, the Hoole school has had an extremely successful year of competition in sport raising the standard of their achievments.

The Year 5 and 6 boys football team went undefeated throughout the year to be crowned champions of Chester – a feat that has never been done before.

Meanwhile, both the rounders and swimming teams both came runners-up in their respective competitions against extremely strong opposition.

'Delighted to finally get some recognition'

St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s was also well represented in tag rugby, hockey, indoor and outdoor athletics and basketball.

“Children at St Werburgh’s are full of enthusiasm and energy and hope to host many sporting events this year.”

Headteacher Kathryn Oates added: “We are very lucky with our committed staff and children in school and are ecstatic at gaining this award and look forward to further developing sport in our school and community.”
