A DANCE based fitness craze from America is being pioneered in Frodsham and Helsby.

Zumba – which mixes movements from a variety of routines including salsa, hip hop, rumba and flamenco – is an aerobic training session featuring fast and slow rhythms.

Instructor Melanie Jones, 44, of Alvanley, a former pharmacist, said: “There’s more to it than most aerobic classes, it’s not just leg curls and kicks like other classes. It just makes people laugh and smile, it is very accessible and you feel good doing it because you are having so much fun. And you don’t have to be a dancer to do it.”

Melanie runs a class at Helsby Community Centre on Mondays from 5.45-6.45pm and at Frodsham Leisure Centre on Thursdays, again from 5.45-6.45pm.
