A youth charity based in Ellesmere Port has received a donation of £32,370 thanks to M&S Bank’s charity golf day.

The bank committed to raise £75,000 for Youth Fed’s Sustain project – which was developed to help save and support the region’s valued youth clubs which are at risk of closure due to a lack of funds – through its annual event at Formby Hall Golf Club in 2013.

To date it has raised more than £100,000, enabling Youth Fed to increase the number of clubs it supports from 60 to 600.

Eighty keen golfers attended the event including M&S Bank employees, suppliers partners, Youth Fed representatives and other members of the Cheshire business community.

Youth Fed CEO Chris Hindley said: “The amount of money that M&S Bank has raised for our charity is absolutely phenomenal.

“It has made an enormous difference in terms of the support we are able to provide to young people across our key areas.

“We have been able to help many more as a result of the funding we have been awarded by M&S Bank and we are incredibly grateful for the commitment the bank and its employees have shown to us.”

Money raised from this year’s event will support Youth Fed initiatives including its Knowledge in Core Skills programme, which provides one-to-one literacy and numeracy tuition to more than 60 young people from Cheshire.

Sue Fox, CEO at M&S Bank, added: “Youth Fed is doing some fantastic work to help young people in the local community, and we’re delighted that through our annual charity golf day, we’ve been able to help them continue this good work.”

“Youth Fed programmes directly benefit nearly 5,000 young people annually. The charity also provides support to a network of youth organisations that reaches more than 50,000 young people each year.”
