TARVIN Youth Club hopes to help to make Christmas extra special by taking part in two appeals.

Firstly, youth club members have put together two hampers of donated goods to hand over to Age Concern's Christmas Appeal.

Club volunteer Jackie Arnold said: 'So much negative press is given to youths in our community. This is positive community involvement.

'Tarvin Youth Club members were keen to support this appeal to show Christmas spirit, but also to say don't judge us on the acts of a few.'

Youth club member Jack Tyrie said: 'Giving the hampers will be a special festive treat which we have provided and we hope they will make someone's Christmas this year.'

Members have also collected a mountain of shoes for the Blue Peter Shoe Biz Appeal, which is raising money to help thousands of very poor children in Malawi, many of whom are orphans, by recycling shoes.

Club volunteer, Pet Twigg said: 'This is a project everyone can contribute to.

'Club members are very much aware about world issues and suffering of sections of the world's population.'

* If you are aged 11 - 16 years old and would like further information about joining the club, contact Pet Twigg on 01829 740509.

If you can volunteer two hours a month to help out, call in on Tuesdays 7-9pm at the scout hut.
