STUDENTS at The Bankfield School cooked up tasty treats for their fellow pupils to kickoff the school's National Design and Technology Week.

Children got the week off to a flying start by opening and running 'Café Cool' during break time.

Youngsters had to use their knowledge of healthy eating and their design and enterprise skills to produce healthy snacks for sale.

All profits were sent to a children's charity of the students' choice.

During the week they also had to recruit clients then make a product suitable for their needs.

Members of the Army also dropped by to put pupils through their paces. They gave students an introduction of what life is like in the

forces and gave them a range of activities to focus on.

Pupils from Year 8 and Year 9 had to put their construction skills to the test as sergeants had children bridge-building and discovering electronics, communications and engineering.

Some students were also involved in work related to the new Mersey crossing.
