FOUR Chester schoolchildren will hit the city’s air-waves after winning a competition to become radio stars.
Natalie Wearden, a student at Chester Catholic High School, Michael Bolam, a pupil at Hoole Primary School, Callum Bailey of Saltney Ferry Primary School and Amber Fairweather of Wood Memorial Primary School in Saltney all get to present on Chester’s Dee 106.3 radio station for a year.
The youngsters won the competition which was organised by Dee Radio and the Mall Chester to celebrate the companies’ fifth birthdays.
Schools were invited to nominate two pupils for the competition, who were asked to record a pre-written link at Dee’s studios off Sealand Road.
A panel of judges from the Mall, Dee 106.3, Millies Cookies and Build a Bear Workshop selected the four winners from twelve finalists.
Mike James from Chester’s Dee 106. 3, said: “We were very happy with the entrants for this year’s competition and it was a very difficult decision selecting just four winners.”
Julie Williams, marketing manager at the Mall Chester, added: “The Mall Chester and Chester’s Dee 106.3 have worked in partnership for the past two years to offer children the chance to be part of the breakfast team for a year and act as mini-celebrities at various local events.”
