THE Chronicle has been contacted by readers about youth nuisance on the Millennium cycle path after a cyclist fractured his skull in an accident related to vandalism.

The 35-year-old Chester man was on the £400,000 path and cycle-way near Blacon Hall Road on Saturday when he hit a piece of fencing that had been cut away.

The path is used by about 300 people a day - cycling to work between the city and Deeside.

And since the incident was reported in the Midweek Chronicle, we have been contacted by people who have been affected by youth nuisance on the cycle path.

Mr Hampson, from Hoole, wrote to say: 'I've experienced numerous incidents of anti-social behaviour since the cycle path was opened.

'The area through Blacon is particularly bad, I have seen children throwing large lumps of concrete on to the middle of the path, which is frequently strewn with rubbish, some of which appears to have been thrown out of back gardens.

'During the summer, motorcyclists make frequent use of the cycle path, with apparent impunity.

'Myself and several neighbours have reported incidents to the police, but all calls are routed through Winsford, where nobody has a clue about the cycle path.

'It is time some kind of regular path patrol was instigated.'

A resident, also from Hoole, who did not wish to be named, said: 'There are always yobs down there creating a nuisance, there is often glass there which we have had to clear up.

'There is also a problem with the youths that hang around under-neath the bridges.'

Sgt Alastair Hinze of Chester Police said: 'If we get reports of anti-social behaviour or there's a problem in a particular area we will look at it closely and deal with people concerned.'

If you see any anti social behaviour on the cycleway contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. tom.sieber@cheshirenews.co.uk
