TALENTED youngsters from Yale College took to the stage to perform for the Prime Minister David Cameron, Wales’ First Minister Carwyn Jones and a host of VIP guests at the opening of Airbus’ North Factory.

Second-year performing arts student Becky Roberts, 17, and a choir from the college, performed Ready To Fly, a specially commissioned song for the occasion.

Becky said: “Chances like this don’t come around often so I’ve just made the most of it and enjoyed every moment. It was a privilege.”

Tim Jones, music programme coordinator at Yale College, helped the singers prepare for the big day.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Yale College musicians.”

Becky, who has sung with the Ffron and Brymbo male voice choirs and performed with Tip Top Productions in Chester, was ‘discovered’ by Airbus when she sang the national anthem live on Sky Sports at the Wales vs Northern Ireland match played at Airbus’s ground.

Jeff Burridge, head of communications for Airbus in the UK, said: “When the time came to find someone to sing this special song, Becky was recommended to us by local Airbus employees. When she came to audition we knew we had the right artist.”
