CHARITABLE staff at a Chester bank raised more than £7,000 for four community causes.

The credit and underwriting department at Bank of America Europe Card Services reached the impressive total by holding fundraising events throughout 2010.

These included sponsored walks, fantasy football, cake sales, bonus balls and a Grand National sweep.

The money has been split between Chester Countess Special Care Baby Unit, the British Heart Foundation, the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal and Aftermath Support Limited.

Angie Lopez, of the Chester Countess fundraising office, said the funds would go towards four new breast pumps at the SCBU, while the British Heart Foundation’s Ken Fretwell said the donation would help further pioneering research into stem cells, part of the charity’s Mend a Broken Heart appeal.

The department’s charity committee coordinator Sophie Bowden added: “We are always keen to support charitable causes in our local communities.”

This year, the department has chosen to support the North Staffordshire Neurosurgical Ward, Dodleston Village Foundation and Leukemia and Lymphoma Research.
