A new shared footpath and cycleway is being installed on part of the A5117.

Highways England has started work to install the brand new feature on a half-mile stretch of the Shotwick-Frodsham road between its two junctions with Powey Lane, near the M56 and A494 on Ellesmere Port’s outskirts.

The agency says the new route will improve safety and provide a convenient link for pedestrians and cyclists.

Work is due to take place in a number of phases and will be carried out between the hours of 9am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. It is expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete, according to the agency.

In order to carry out the project safely and maintain traffic flow, temporary traffic lights will be in place throughout the scheme.

Work on carriageway resurfacing due to finish before weekend

Meanwhile nearby contractors Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald, who are responsible for managing and maintaining the motorway and trunk road network in Cheshire and other areas on behalf of Highways England, are due to finish work involving overnight carriageway resurfacing on the A5117 between the junctions with the A540 Parkgate Road and Bridle Lane.

Further site investigations revealed that additional resurfacing was required which has also included some resurfacing to the Dunkirk roundabout.

Engineers explain that as the road carries a large volume of traffic and to avoid major disruption to traffic, the work has been undertaken at night.

This has also involved temporary overnight road closures on the A5117 and A494 exit slip road with local signed diversion routes in place.

The works are due to be lifted before the weekend.
