CHESTER Racecourse is saddling up for a ladies’ day with a difference.

A group of women who work at the Roodee and the Holiday Inn Express, in the racecourse grounds, are taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Chester Race for Life on Sunday, June 14.

The 5k event starts and finishes at the racecourse and the 31 women are hoping to raise £2,000 for research into cancer.

Chester Race Company chief executive Richard Thomas said: “We are delighted to be hosting the start and finish of the 2009 Chester Race for Life.

“It’s the first time the race has been held in the city centre and we were very keen to support such an important cause as Cancer Research UK.”

Yesterday the women gathered at the racecourse with Chester Race for Life event manager Helen Wright and Trish Pugh, of Felicity Hat Hire, Christleton Road, Boughton, who donated the hats worn by the women, to celebrate their team effort.

Event manager Helen Wright said: “We are very excited about Race for Life being at Chester Racecourse this year and thank Alex Jarvis and the team for all the support they have given us.

“I urge any woman who hasn’t yet signed up for the Chester Race for Life to do so now and walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to help beat cancer.”
