A BODY found on the railway line at Saltney this morning is believed to be that of a woman.

The driver of a train in the Saltney Junction area reported the matter to British Transport Police at 5.20am today (Tuesday, August 3).

At first, the driver thought he had hit someone on the line but BTP officers are not certain whether the body may have been on the line already.

A BTP spokesman said: “Network Rail are working with ourselves, the ambulance service and Cheshire Constabulary and the investigation is continuing.

“The actual circumstances of the incident are not straightforward and we are at the early stages of assessing what has happened.

“We do know that the driver was forced to apply his emergency brakes and then reported that he may have hit someone.”

The incident has led to train service disruption at Saltney and Chester.
