A WOMAN’S nostalgic visit back to the Tattenhall beauty spot where she grew up was ruined after vandals destroyed her car.

Denise Roberts is warning village residents to be on their guard after her car was deliberately vandalised several times with a sharp object following a special day trip to her childhood home on Ford Lane on May 6.

Denise, who now lives in Cuddington, had decided to make the most of the bank holiday sunshine by taking her dog Charlie on a long walk in the village.

The 50-year-old parked her vehicle in what she thought was a relatively secluded spot near the bottom of the lane and left it for about an hour while she and Charlie ‘took a trip down memory lane’, revisiting the stream where she had spent many happy hours with her parents.

But her peaceful day was abruptly cut short when she returned to her badly damaged car, which she has been told will cost £1,000 to repair.

Denise said: “It was such a dreadful shock, I just did not expect something like this to happen in such a rural location.

“I made enquiries to local residents but no one had seen or heard a thing.

“My day had been so pleasant before this, it really ruined what was a little trip down memory lane for me and Charlie, to the place where I had spent many happy hours with my parents.”

Denise added: “I feel that people going for walks in this area should be on their guard - when I came back to the car I just couldn’t believe what I saw.

“The damage was so severe, the panels on both sides of the car have been damaged.

“This is not a place I would have expected something like this to happen - I was away from my car an hour and in that time I did not see one person.

“This incident has spoilt the fond memories I’ve always had for this location but I won’t let someone spoil what memories I have of my parents and childhood.”

PC Dave Walton from Cheshire police said: “Unfortunately the area of Ford Lane, Newton-by-Tattenhall is known to us as an anti-social behaviour spot where youths often tend to be present.

“We would like to reassure residents that we do regularly patrol these areas and ask them to please be vigilant at all times.”
