Woman in wheelchair aged 61 attacked in Middlewich by group of youths

Officers are appealing for information after a 61-year-old woman was robbed by a group of youths in Middlewich.

The incident occurred at about 7.30pm on Thursday, December 10 as the woman, who uses a motorised wheelchair and is deaf, was making her way home from Tesco, Warmingham Lane, after buying some groceries.

As the victim passed the Turnpike pub on Warmingham Lane, at the junction of Coronation Road, she was approached by a three teenage boys, who had crossed over from the opposite side of the road.

As the boys moved towards her they grabbed hold of the woman and stole her purse. The first offender is described as white, approximately 4ft 6ins to 4ft 8inches tall, of chubby build with a round face and wearing dark clothing with his hood up.

The second offender is described as white, approximately 4ft 10 inches to 5ft tall, of slim build and wearing dark clothing with his hood up.

The third white offender is described as approximately 4ft 10 inches to 5ft tall, of slim build and wearing dark clothing.

Good Samaritan

In addition to tracing the three teenage boys, officers are also keen to trace a good Samaritan who assisted the woman by chasing after the youths and managing to get hold of and return some of the victim's money.

The man is believed to be in his 30s or 40s and at the time of the incident he was wearing a dark waterproof jacket and a round neck blue jumper.

Detective Sergeant Jim Boulton of Cheshire Police said: “This was a despicable incident which has had a profound effect on an extremely vulnerable person.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes that they may have seen anything suspicious to come forward.

“I would specifically like to speak to the good Samaritan who assisted the woman and managed to return some of her property.”
