CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service has received a number of calls from the north and west of the county due to flooding.

More than three inches of rainfall are expected to hit the region during the 24-hour deluge and residents, businesses and motorists have been affected.

The first call received by the fire service was received just after 1pm today (Monday) and the areas affected include Chester, Eccleston, Norbury, Little Sutton, Ledsham, Capenhurst, Guilden Sutton, Saughall, Winsford, Hooton, Lower Kinnerton, Neston, Warrington, Blacon, Mickle Trafford, Ellesmere Port and Lache.

A woman was rescued from a vehicle in Guilden Sutton due to floodwater and she was successfully led to safety by fire and rescue crews.

Firefighters are urging motorists to avoid roads at Guilden Sutton which are thought to be severely affected by flooding and are closed. These are Station Lane, Wicker Lane and Church Lane in Guilden Sutton.
